Come Settle In…Where Kentucky’s First Visitors Made Their Home

Kentucky’s First Settlement--1774

Begin your adventures in a small town that’s bursting with historic charm.  Once a frontier territory, “Harrodstown” was founded in 1774 as the first permanent English settlement west of the Allegheny Mountains.  You’ll discover a place where the pioneer past has a strong presence and southern hospitality is the backdrop for an appealing mix of history, architecture and culture.  We invite you to experience the relaxing atmosphere of our historic area.

Tour Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill--America’s largest restored Shaker offers touring, dining, lodging riverboat excursions, and crafts shopping in original 19th century buildings.   Cruise the Kentucky River aboard the Dixie Belle, an authentic sternwheeler, for spectacular views of the Palisades. Explore a full-scale replica fort and learn about frontier life at Old Fort Harrod State Park.  Savor traditional cuisine at Beaumont Inn, Kentucky’s oldest family-operated country inn refined through five generations of innkeeping.  View the town’s architectural treasures encompassing over 200 years of history on the Walking/Driving Tour.  Stroll downtown's historic district and shop for quality antiques and handmade crafts.  Join the fun as our locals play host to numerous Festival & Events held throughout the year.  Come anytime--we've been preparing for your visit since 1774!
